Alexandra Karamoutsiou is a PhD holder from the School of Music Studies of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a postdoc researcher at the same department. She is interested in the historical, political, cultural, and sociological mediations of musicking and the formation of urban music communities. Particularly, her research is focused on the DIY music practices of Thessaloniki since the Post Junta period. She is an active musician (vocalist and violinist) exploring different musical genres from classical to experimental music and from afro-cuban to Greek rebetiko. Since 2017 has presented parts of her research work in conferences in Greece and abroad such as IASPM and KISMIF. She is a founding member of the Critical Music Histories (CMH) study group and an active member of the Popular Music in Greece: International Research Consortium. At the moment she is an adjunct lecturer at the School of Music Studies of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
