Educational summer camps for children “Stories of our city: an introduction to the art of cinema”
In the framework of “Mystery 32 Open Eleusis – one documentary, many stories” and in cooperation with the Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Eleusis, the project team organized 5-day children’s summer camps. The summer camps are addressed to children aged 10 – 12 years old.
Under the guidance of experienced experts, the children will collect stories, write scripts and create their own films about how they experience their city.
Workshop programme
Day 1
Introduction to Oral History
Introduction between students and educators
Discussion on the topic: “What is history? What is oral history?”
Exercises/games
Introduction to the moving image
Cinema: A game with image and sound? What is the difference between moving image and photography? Introduction to the zootrope.
Painting and animating photos of our city using the stop motion animation technique.
Day 2
Introduction to audiovisual storytelling genres and animation techniques
Discussion/Exercises/Games
Day 3
Collection of material / script writing
Screening of short films and discussion
Choice of characters
Creating a “film-shotting” schedule – planning scenes
Day 4
Film-shooting
Day 5
Soundtrack and completion of the film
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Research Centre for the Humanities (RCH).
